I recently purchased a bedroom set from Ashley Furniture. My wife picked out a light oak finish.

We took pictures of it at the showroom so we could compare with the other items in the bedroom. A couple days later, on Saturday, we picked up the items at the warehouse and took them home. We moved out the old furniture and gave it to a needy family. Then we made the mistake of opening the boxes.

To our surprise, it was the wrong color. We selected a light oak finish and were given a dark mahogany. This all happened on Super bowl weekend and we had people coming over on Sunday. We called the store and no one called us back until late Sunday afternoon.

We missed the call and when I called back, they kept putting us on hold. This went on for several days and we had no bedroom furniture to sleep on. When I did finally get through, I spoke to a women manager and she told me sometimes the furniture looks different or looks darker when you get it home. I explained to her that we took pictures and it is much darker.

Her reply was, "Well if you do not like the color, bring it back and exchange it for different furniture." I told her we did not see anything that we liked in the store so that was not a possibility. I also told her that one of the night stands had the corner broken off and needed to be replaced. (While waiting to pick up my furniture, I saw a fork lift driver drop several boxes. I was not aware that was my furniture.

There were about 4 to 5 other people picking up furniture the same day and they were bringing out a lot of boxes all mixed together.) When we started talking about the return policy, she told me someone would have to come out in two weeks and look at the broken furniture and a determination would be made as to if they would replace the item. I told her that was not an option. I was going to return the furniture the next day. She claimed that could not be done.

We ended the phone call because she refused to accept the damaged furniture and claimed that she would have another manager call me back for a solution. The next day, I called again and was put on hold several times. Finally, I got thru and talked to a young lady. She told me if I sent in pictures of the damaged item, someone could look at them and make a determination.

I again did not get a call back and started calling the store. It is almost impossible to talk to the same person. They claim they are not there or they will call you back. No one ever calls back.

I called and talked to another person about sending in the photos. I was again told someone would come out to the house in two weeks to view the furniture. I explain again, I would not be home during that period and had to have this matter resolved immediately. Again they told me a manager would have to call me back.

No one did. I kept pursuing the matter until I did get a manager on the phone. He explained again that we could bring back the furniture and I explained that they did not have anything that we could exchange it for. Finally, the manager told me they would bring out a replacement item and I am waiting for them to let me know what day it will be delivered.

One last comment, when I was at the warehouse picking up the items, the box had a big sign on it, "Made in Vietnam." I was surprised and made a comment. The man at the warehouse, said to me. Don't believe everything you read.

When I opened up the furniture, the same stamp is on the back of each piece. Made in Vietnam.

Monetary Loss: $2.

Location: Fort Huachuca, Arizona

I bought a sectional sofa from a private store but it's by Ashley furniture. One end says it's made in USA the other end says it's made in Vietnam! The USA piece isn't holding up .

Just think you are feeding files in Vietnam because the wage to make the funiture is about $19HR USD. Here it would be unionized $35hr. And it would have cost $5000 to buy.

I bought a bed and night stands from Bassett Furniture recently. In the store, they make a fairly big deal out of being "100% made-in-USA".

They have a kiosk set up with videos playing in an infinite loop, showing beaming American workers.

I thought this accounted for the high prices and was happy to pay them to support my fellow American workers and the economy in general.

Fast forward to delivery day. What do I see but "MADE IN VIETNAM" stamped on the furniture...

Furniture made in Vietnam with trees grooved in Cambodia (Vietnamese stole million and million ton of trees from Cambodia. Please do your research before buying; please help innocent Khmer people of Cambodia. DO NOT BUY FURNITURE THAT MADE IN VIETNAM !!!

What a dumb, dumb comment filled with pettiness and hate.

Made in Vietnam furniture is fine.

It is usually lower-priced, due to lower cost of labor in Vietnam. It is also not the absolute highest quality, since these items are mass-produced, rather than prepared by specially-trained carpenters.
