Deceptive practices and price gouging.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was having bedrooms painted and new carpeting installed in my home while I was travelling on a month-long family obligation trip overseas.

Before I left, I wanted to purchase a headboard, footboard and nightstand, so that I could install them into my ‘new’ bedroom immediately upon my return.

I went to the Medford, OR, Ashley showroom and spoke to a salesperson who showed me a floor model with a ‘Blue Dot’ and “President’s Day Special” price of 50% off the prominently displayed, written, retail price of $1,848.

I was told that the model was discontinued, and that it may have a few minor marks. I inspected the bed, which did have a few minor marks, but I’m OK with that.

The bed was set up in the showroom with short (about 4 foot) side rails that were not the original parts. I assumed that it was a space-saving method. I did not see the original side rails. None of the other 15 or so beds were displayed in this “short bed manner

I authorized a charge to my credit card of $973; which included a $50 delivery charge. The store is 4.7 miles from my home.

I stressed the need for speedy delivery, as I was about to leave on my trip.

5 days later I had not heard anything. The receptionist stated that she had “not had e-mail confirmation” for the delivery.

The bed was delivered finally, 7 days after I purchased it. I was asked, by the drivers, to inspect the bed’s side rails which were ‘gouged.’

Although there was obvious damage, I reluctantly accepted that; as I thought that I had got a good deal on pricing.

Then I looked at the invoice.

It stated that the bed was sold “as is / no warranty.” The “no warranty” clause was NOT disclosed during the sales process.

I went to the Ashleyfurniturehomestore.com site and put in the part numbers-

The bed (B695) is not only a current model; but is priced at full retail price of $999 (on sale, right now, for $849 99)

The nightstand (B695-93) is also a current model and is priced at full retail price of $369.99 (on sale for $314.99)

The brand-new, full warranty included price for the items (that I saw listed at the store for $1,848) is actually $1,368.99!

I was sold damaged, “no warranty,” “discontinued” floor models for just 17% ($214) less than the cost of undamaged, brand new, fully-warranted items. Neither price includes shipping costs.

After a conversation with the store manager, ‘Julie,’ who explained that:

the Ashley web site “does not update in a timely manner,” and that it “does not show that the items listed are actually discontinued.”

the sales person was “doing her job” when she failed to disclose the ‘no warranty’ terms; as the store OWNER has a “set policy of removing warranties on ALL marked-down items.”

Julie did not offer an explanation as to why the display bed was setup without the damaged side rails in the store.

when I suggested that many of these trade practices are illegal; Julie went on the defensive, snapping at me that she would arrange to have the bed picked up, because she would not be “spoken down to” like that.

After refusing to adjust the pricing, in any way, as she -”could not compete with online pricing,” (even for her OWN STORE?) I accepted her suggestion that the store would come and pick the bed up on, Saturday, the day before I leave.

The charge has since been reversed on my credit card.

So why the negative feedback?

If I catch sometime stealing from me; confront them; and they then return the goods; it still does NOT mean that theft has not occurred.

There are several illegal and unethical practices involved in this transaction. Hopefully this review will serve as a warning to anyone planning on buying at any Ashley Furniture store.

I’m currently looking up what I can do since I’ve just spent $1,200 less than 12 hours ago. I told the sales person the price online vs what they had in store and was told it’d be honored and that I’m getting it at such a deal...

What?! When you look online, they make you type in your zip code for availability and pricing but when you go into the store everything is $200+ and more?! I also bought a mattress and sure enough it’s $200 less online. And I also got a phone call an hour before the store closed that I owed them more money because they didn’t put delivery on something I ordered.

I signed everything and I paid for everything, even with the mattress being marked up, and I’m PISSED.

I’m going to be speaking to the manager in person about this and about how I was given 6 different delivery days... wish me luck.

I also had the same issue with Ashley Furniture. I visited the Folsom, CA store last week.

They were advertising a 40% off friends and family special. My husband and I wanted to take advantage of the sale price and decided to purchase a dining room set. After purchasing I went online to look at pictures of the pieces we purchased and noticed that the online price was significantly lower than their in-store special pricing. Even the price of “premium setup and delivery” was higher in-store (69.99 online vs 119.99 instire for setup and delivery).

I called the salesperson who helped us to cancel the order and he accommodated the price changes but acted as if he was doing me a huge favor saying that he was giving me “60% off”.... but I explained to him that that only meant they were pricing their products 60% MORE in their store than what they actually were online. While I appreciated they corrected the situation this deceptive pricing practice has left a bad taste in my mouth.

I won’t be purchasing anything from this store ever again. I don’t understand how this practice could be legal?!

Pay attention to sakeperson an managers in Beaumont store .gouging deceptive trade.Delivery date not good an refunds of it not true after said the bookkeeper does it an still can't replied to when after told sent on 7 Of May an now it's 26 of May still never receive deceptive .

I was also a victim of price gouging. Ashley furniture on Germantown Pkwy in Memphis, TN charged me $1099 for a queen size Hadelyn bed that is $595 on their website.

I didn't have my cell phone with me at the time do a price check before hand. I refuse to pay almost a 50% makeup so I am canceling my order.

Ashley Furniture - Customer Care Review from New York, New York

My wife and I went to go Furniture shopping for a new couch. Upon finding the one we liked we sat down to negotiate the deal it was revealed that their promotion was only valid through one bank no where on any advertising does it say I have to open another credit account to for ashley furniture to get the 72mo financing. Also after looking online e there pricing was over 1000.00 more they said they won't price match an Internet store. After negotiate some more he said he would could do 2800.00 for the sectional tax and 5yr protection. I did not have that available on my account with them. I called an hour later to say I was going to take the deal as I came up with the other money. I was then told that it was plus tax which we had discussed an all inclusive price. I relented and applied onlinexpensive for the other financing and was approved so again my wife and I head to the store. When we walked in I asked for our saleswoman and saw the manager while we waited for our saleswoman I spoke to the manager told him I wanted the deal we discussed earlier he called his manager then said 2800.00 all in. I went to tell him I got approved for the new financing and he again changed the deal to 6mo interest free financing. His response was I have to keep the lights on sorry as he waved his hands in my face and started to walk away. My wife and I left completely embarrassed and angered after being treated like we had done something wrong. Now I have ano additional inquiry on my credit for nothing

I ordered a king size bed Saveaha Poster Bed several weeks ago. First of all it tooks weeks to get my beed once I received my bed. My fiance started putting the bed together and half way through putting the bed together we found out we were shipped three correct size brackets and 3 wrong size brackets. They are the metal brackets that attach to the wood frame. I was advised that the correct size brackets would be shipped out and I would have them in a few days. Well it has been a whole week and I still have no brackets. Therefore my brand new mattress are still on the floor. Im pissed off. By the way everything in my house is Ashley but the way I feel now I will never buy from Ashley again.

Durablend Peeling

Ashley Furniture - Durablend Peeling
Ashley Furniture - Durablend Peeling - Image 2

My husband and I purchased a sectional from Ashley and as the others have stated, the Durablend started peeling. The salesperson had also told us that Durablend was more durable than leather.

We believed what we were told and thought the sectional would last a long time since there are just the two of us. In our case, the peeling began after about a year. Needless to say we were shocked and could not understand why the peeling happened. Bottom line, the fabric is just worthless and very cheap.

As my husband said, it's thinner than onion skin. We will never by anything from Ashley Furniture again.

$1600 sectional lasted 6 years. And like onion skin that *** went everywhere.

Awful stuff. What is the point in all that high quality stitching?

Birt Jmu

Ashley Furniture is awful and insensitive. Good luck in the future, 4Seating/Seatcraft is much better from what I hear.

I bought a couch and love seat. They are peeling too. I am very disappointed in this product, and will never buy Ashley furniture again.

Guest

I bought a Ashley red sectional sofa. The sofa started peeling after a year and 1/2 of owning it.

Guest

I bought a sofa & loveseat from Ashley in Odessa, Texas and 18 months later the loveseat cushions just started peeling and within weeks they were almost bare. I tried to order replacement cushions but they don't have mine available.

DON'T EVER BUY ANYTHING FROM ASHLEY FURNITURE.

Guest

I have the same exactly the same issue. There is a class action suit against them, stand by and get your 6 dollars "settlement" check......sofa cost me $1500 and lasted about a year and a half

Guest

i Baught the same kind as you. Mine started peeling and will never buy this brand or kind again.

Guest

My husband and I have the same problem. How do we get the claim started?

"One of the lower-cost alternatives similar to bonded leather is DuraBlend trademark by Ashley Furniture. DURABLEND is a Bonded Leather – consist of blended leather or particles of leather adhered together with a coating of PU (polyurethane).

Contents: 57% polyurethane, 26% poly/cotton and 17% minimum leather shavings. DuraBlend provides the look and feel of 100% Leather or Leather Match at an economical price."

https://furniturecart.wordpress.com/2013/05/16/fun-furniture-facts-genuine-leather-vs-bonded-leather/

Durablend is bonded leather, they just don't directly call it that in an effort to further confuse the customer. Notice that actual leather is the lowest percentage content in the product. It's all mixed together and painted onto a backing.

That's what you see peeling off- the fake leather coating.

Get real leather or stick with fabric. DO NOT get anything else, regardless of what the salesmen tell you.

They just want to make the sale. They tell you you can get "leather" at a fraction of the cost, and they know they wont see you for awhile, as it takes a little time to start peeling.

It's a scam in the furniture business.

Thank you as your information was very informative for all of us. I was duped as well but it was from Gardener White.

It looks absolutely disgusting.

My couch before this blend was 100% leather. Had it for 15 years, gave it to my sister which still has it after 5 years and still in great shape.

Furniture is low grade, state that it is leather, color wore off and a leather polish does not work. I am sure it is pleather.

2nd set that is junk. Bought insurance and had issues with that. Ashley has dropped that company. "Leather" came off the back, it is a skim not total leather, if it is at all.

Staples coming out of sofa. Sent pictures and was given a little over $300 credit! This for a leather sofa set!

Spoke with manager and her supervisor, they thought this was sufficient.

I ordered to couches at $849.99 each not cheap, they look good in store. Since I have them they keep getting fade marks on them they replace one couch already.

After they had the wrong piece to fix it 3x.I keep asking for them to take them back and give me a credit so i pick something else out but they want to keep fixing the same problem.I purchase the warranty so after one year the warranty kicks in and the fade marks and not covered how convenient.

A very unhappy customer... at this point I would never recommend Ashley Furniture to anybody.

I'm very sorry to hear you are having issues with your living room furniture. Can you please send us your purchase information, including the store where you purchased, to Fanfeedback@ashleyfurniture.com.

Please put Pissed Consumer – and your name in the subject box. We would be happy to try to help.

Thanks,

Seems to be a problem with their faux leather furniture. Although it is not true leather, a purchaser should not have the material peeling off in 4 years!

The same thing has happened to me and I still cannot get Ashley to honor their extended warranty.

After multiple calls to the store, their warranty people and even to corporate head quarters, I have not received an appropriate response to my problem.

I will NEVER EVER shop at Ashley Furniture again!

Ashley Furniture - Customer Care Review from Winnipeg, Manitoba

Our new sofa set just got delivered yesterday.

Upon delivery, we noted that the cushions weren't plump as we had seen and like at Ashley Furniture Winnipeg (St. James). The delivery staff was like, "aaa I don't know... call the custimer service". I was near the store at that time, so my wife called me and narrated the incidence. I turned and entered the store and spoke to the customer service staff. The lady totally ignored the issue and kept saying that the delivery was exactly as ordered. The saleman who sold it to us wasnt their. Incalled back my wife, and the delivery staff had already left. Net day, I took one of the cushions with me to the store. The salesman Darren was there. I explained the problem to him... we examined the product on display. The one display was way more stuffed than the one they had delivered. He took me to a customer service desk (Suzie) and we expalined the whole situation to her. She lodged a report and said that I should expect a call from another customer service center or somehting. I left thanking both Darren and Suzie.

Half an hour after that I received a call and the customer service started explaining the one delivered came from the manufacturer and she could not do anything about it! And she kept repeating similar pre-written sentences no matter how I pleaded. I had purchsed an additional protection plan worth $174. Even that didnt cover such breach of promise and deception.

She said there would be a 25% restocking charge if I returned.

So here I am, soending more than $2600 on a set of sofa, love seat and a chair, with cushions that won't support someone's back and Ashely Furniture doesn't own its product!

Buyers beware!
