UDATE On I didn't spend and I'm not out of the woods yet??

Ok, so I finally got a hold of the sales lady as soon as they opened. She said she was sorry and hadn't been able to order our furniture because we gave her a check last night 5 minutes before closing. Then, I proceded to tell her we changed our minds and she said I could come and pick up my check anytime. I thanked her and started having second thoughts about not going with Ashley for our purchases. So, around 11:30 my husband and I decided to go in and pick up the check. When we got there they said, " Oh, we decided to cash your check". I was furious. They thought if they could hurry and get it through we would be stuck with a 20% re-stocking fee and it would take us weeks to get a check back. I immediately called my bank in front of the sales lady and told them to do a stop payment of my check and then we left. I was mad but glad that I'm only out the $20, instead of receiving junk furniture with store credit to buy more junk furniture and a warranty that wasn't any good. It's very sad because all the furniture we picked out was very nice on the showroom floor and I was excited about finally being able to afford it. Thank you to all who stepped up and saved me lots of money and most of all grief.

UDATE On I didn't spend and I'm not out of the woods yet??

So, last night we gave our local Ashley Store a check for the $4,500. When my husband and I got home we saw all the complaints about Ashley Furniture and decided to try and get out of the deal. So, this morning the minute the store opened I told them that we changed our mind. Since we left there at closing, they surely wouldn't have deposited our check yet, right?? WRONG. Anyway, our sales lady said that they still had it and I could stop in around 12. I started to feel bad because of her pleasant customer service and started to having second thoughts. I was going to go back in and speak to her some more about what we had purchased. So, I called as I was leaving our house at about 11:30 to let her know we were on our way. Well, she says, "we decided to cash your check". Mind you, they hadn't even put in our order and that was there way of making the sale and probably charging us a re-stocking fee before we even got our furniture. I immediately called my bank and put a stop payment. I was furious.. I think my first feeling about this was right on. I guess it's better to be out the $20.00 then to be out of $4,500 of junky furniture. The sad thing is that the stuff we had picked out seemed very nice, but I just knew to follow my feelings after reading all of these complaints.... So, to everyone who just saved me $4,480 I thank you sooooo much for giving us the heads up.

Delivered a broken piece of furniture - 10 weeks to repair

Ashley delivered 4 pieces of furniture, yes, the other three were fine, but a dresser had a cracked leg that wasn't apparent until after the delivery men left. It's going to take Ashley approx 10 weeks to replace the part, that's over 2 months to send a replacement leg for the dresser. We've only found this last revelation out after repeated calls to their distribution center. they've never bothered to update us on the status. I feel that it would be a simple matter of, one, delivering a replacement chest or, two, keeping us posted of the follow up until it was taken care of. Too much to ask of this organazation.

I'm glad I didn't spend. Not out of the woods yet though!!!

My husband and i went to our local Ashley furniture store yesterday and picked out about $4,500 in furniture. I came home and got really worried about what we had decided to do. I starting searching and found this site, how aweful.. How is your refund process going for you JM Badger?? I have been trying all morning to let the store know that we have changed our minds about buying based on on the bad on this and other forums. I would be "very" mad if I spent that much and got junk and my husband would be even mader. My husband and I too were happy about the way it looked at the showroom and we did buy the extended warrenty?? I hope it's not too late...... I will post later and let you know.

Refused to change delivery date & had to fight to return item

I paid $3000 cash for furniture at the Ashley store on IH 10 in San Antonio. I thought they were great as I am from New England & not familiar with the store until the money was in their hands. I set a delivery date for mid April as I was not sure when I could get into the apartment I was renting and needed to have the rest of my things shipped from New England. I was told by the salesperson that that date could be changed. When I was told that I could have the apartment soon after April 1, I called and was told the delivery date could not be changed and had to sleep on the floor for two weeks. Delivery included a recliner that I was not able to close and when I called to return it I was forced to call the store 4 times and get feisty to be able to return the chair. They offered to send a service technician to look at the chair, but it would have been after the 14 days and if the chair was deemed fine by the technician, I had no recourse, just a chair I could not use as a recliner as I could not close it. The other option was to pay $99 for them to pick it up or rent my own truck to return the chair before my 14 days were up. I opted for the latter and am now out $150 for the truck rental/fuel. They generated a credit memo, but I will have to fight with them to get my cash back to spend it elsewhere. I will not ever buy anything else from Ashley Furniture!!!!!

Ashley Furniture-Portales New Mexico-Poor Manufacturing and more!

I ordered the dura plush mocha sofa and love seat, a week or so later the cushion you sit down on started to have lumps in it. They ordered new parts, said it would be in within 3 weeks. It took more like 6 weeks, and then it was the wrong part!!! I'm still waiting to have that issue resolved, and we got them 2 1/2 months ago. They want to take the sofa I have and repair instead of just replacing it, which I would prefer. We also ordered the Berringer counter height table from them about a month after the couch and love seat. Delivery was quick for both items. BUT I got this table and I was not happy with the quality at all! There were scratches on the table, gouges in a leg, and where the leaf was there was a drop of glue that would not come off, also there was a nick on the table top, which you could see they filled with wood putty and tried to stain it to match. That was really noticeable because it shined. I called them and it was obvious they were not happy I called. They had the warehouse manager come out to look at the table and the couch. The manager said he would replace the table, but would have given me a harder time if it was only scratches! The other issues are worse in my opinion! Also they had a delivery guy try to remove the glue, which after he got it off the table was smooth and shiny there. I took pictures of everything before anyone came by, which I recommend you do as well! They came by today to bring me the new table, and I am just so frustrated with them. This new table looked fine until i got to the far end of the top. It looked like a screw driver had put a good deep scratch in the table and again they tried to fill it with putty and wood stain. I could see it easily two feet away! There was no way I was accepting it! I called the store and tried to deal with them. I gave them two options...either get me a new table or I'll keep my old one with new legs and discount. They opted for my second option. I was fine with it because there would be no guarantee that the THIRD table wouldn't have had problems either and I just didn't want to mess with them anymore over it. My discount was 20%. I was thinking it would be for the whole set, no I was wrong. I'm only getting the 20% off of the table alone. When I previously had problems with the table AND legs. Granted I have new legs but I still had to deal with their poor manufacturing of my old ones. Also each chair was wobbly, the delivery guys fixed that but I have some scratches in two of the backs, which they are sending me new ones for. We'll see how long that takes. It's been about 2 weeks so far. I can assure you I will NOT be ordering from Ashley furniture ever again! Also my parents were going to order a leather recliner sofa and love seat from them, but because of my problems with them, they have also decided not to purchase anything from them. There's a loss of at least $2000. I even told the warehouse manager to make sure this table is in tip top shape otherwise he'd be getting it back. It's frustrating when you pay so much for furniture and it's not near in the condition it should be! So buyers, BEWARE!!!

If you think Ashley furniture is over priced you are out of your mind. Go to a real furniture store and see how expensive furniture REALLY is!

I bought a new house March of 08, I was so excited to have anew house and new furniture. I purchased a sofa that had a hide a bed, the sofa cushions after you sat on them were flat, the bed frame was broke, it took 4 weeks for them to return my sofa after repair of the bed, and they were to restuff the cushions which I can't tell if they did.

Also I purchased a dining room set that in the year and half I have had it has been used maybe 7 times the chairs are week and naturally no warranty on them, what if it was a everyday table it wouldn't have lasted 2 months.

I will not purchase another piece of furniture from any Ashley store. Very poor quality, over rated and over price.

The store is doing what it can. Tell you the truth, you did THEM a favor by not letting your parents buy anything there!

Paying a lot for furniture? At the Ashley store? Give me a break.

Ashley Furniture

The stores and warehouse that i work for is 100% on customer satisfaction. Just remember that the Ashley homestores are not run by Ashley Furniture Industries. They lease the name and then sell their product. Its like rent a center...they sell brand name furniture with the rent a center name...so it all depends on whos running the homestore and their wanting to have happy or pissed off customers. My homestore wants happy customers and we do what we can to achieve that.We are very thourough with our customers from the sales floor until delivery or pick up.

I got this off another website. Why dont New york or other states do what is below

PHOENIX -- Ashley Furniture Homestore has agreed to pay the state of Arizona $400,000 to resolve consumer complaints about deliveries and allegations of deceptive advertising.

The money will be used to pay for consumer fraud education, attorneys' fees and investigation costs. The settlement also requires Ashley Furniture Homestore to change its business practices with regard to advertising and delivery and cancellation of orders.

The settlement provides customers with a right to cancel late orders and a right to prompt repair or replacement of defective furniture. In addition, Ashley Furniture will pay restitution of $2,000 to consumers who were charged a restocking fee, and the company will replace or provide refunds of up to $8,000 to consumers who received defective furniture.

"This is a great result for Arizona consumers," said state Attorney General Terry Goddard. "This settlement changes how Ashley Furniture Homestore does business in Arizona. Consumers now have a remedy for late and defectively delivered furniture, and Ashley Furniture Homestores will make better disclosures in its advertisements."

In 2004 and 2005, the Attorney General's Office received numerous complaints about furniture deliveries that were extremely late and/or the furniture delivered was defective. The complaint filed by the Attorney General alleged that Ashley Furniture used disclaimer language in its sales order slips, along with a 30 percent restocking fee, to prevent customers from canceling their orders even though the delivery had been delayed months after the estimated date. Additionally, the complaint alleged that the company failed to adequately disclose minimum purchase requirements to qualify for zero interest financing.

In 2005, after the initial contact by the Attorney General's Office, Ashley Furniture Homestore began taking corrective action to resolve the consumer complaints.

"In all honesty, we grew too fast over a short period of time in 2004 and 2005 and we were not prepared for the volume of business that would affect manufacturing and operational delays which ultimately and unfortunately, affected our valued customer," said Michael Jedlowski, President and CEO of Southwestern Furniture, the company that owns and operates five Ashley Furniture Homestores in the Phoenix area.

The settlement, in the form of a consent judgment, does not constitute an admission of wrongdoing by Ashley Furniture Homestore. The company said in a media statement that it denies any wrongdoing and "has settled to avoid the uncertainties, costs and distractions associated with litigation and refers to the Phoenix area stores only."

The settlement also includes several additional provisions:

-- If an advertisement offers zero financing, it must include a statement that says a minimum purchase applies and print ads must clearly disclose the minimum purchase amount.

-- At the time of purchase, Ashley Furniture Homestore will put estimated delivery times in writing, and store representatives cannot modify or make statements inconsistent with the written estimate.

-- Ashley Furniture Homestore will not provide an estimated delivery date unless there is a reasonable basis for making that estimate.

-- Ashley Furniture Homestore will not require consumers to accept delivery of any merchandise that is damaged or defective at the time of delivery unless the merchandise was sold "as is" and is designated "as is" on the sales invoice.

-- Ashley Furniture Homestore will provide a written cancellation and refund policy to customers. This policy will allow consumers to cancel an order and request a refund within 30 days if the company fails to deliver furniture after 30 days of the written estimated delivery date.

-- Ashley Furniture Homestore will provide a written policy regarding damaged or defective furniture. The policy will require consumers to notify Ashley Furniture within three days after delivery that the furniture was damaged. The company then has 30 days to either replace or repair the merchandise. If Ashley Furniture cannot replace or repair the merchandise, then the company will offer the customer a full refund.

Southwestern said in the media statement that it views its experience working with the Arizona Attorney General's Office as a positive one that allowed the company "to make great strides in improving all aspects of our business including developing methods and procedures to monitor and improve customer satisfaction."

Southwestern said its improvement programs would continue on a company-wide basis.

Consumers can find information about filing a complaint at the Attorney General's

I think people are just not used to getting something "NOW". Our consumer driven market drives people to want to shop and have it in their house the next day.

People have a hard time waiting. Then when a damaged piece comes they get all pissed of because they have to wait another week to have their furniture "NOW".

Just be patient people. That is how this company can offer the nice prices it does, it ships stuff from it's wharehouse, however, it won't come in just one day!

Be patient.

Hope the 3rd time is the charm!

well, I purchased a gorgeous dining room set from Ashley Furniture, and I really love the set, but the first table was damaged pretty badly. they had a technician come out and he said the damage most likely occured during shipping and that was unfixable. I received a new table within three weeks, but that one was also damaged. in the same place as the first one. My new table will be delivered next week, and I hope this one will be a keeper. Even though I'm mad that the table is still not here, their costomer service people were really good to me. And left the table for me to use so I wasn't any further inconvienienced. how can you be mad at that?

Take your money and give you crapy furniture !!!

Look don't let them kid you....they only make your furniture after you order. The folks in Arcadia want you to believe that all the delivery problems are due to the Homestores.

Don't believe it.....maybe if they (Arcadia) were not a bunch of greedy bastards...and they actually believed they made a good product they would produce a product based on expected demand instead of actual orders. You don't get your furniture on time because it's only made after you order...and not made well because they have to keep up with the orders placed.
